AAP submission is slightly delayed

The submission to the special issue of Accident Analysis and Prevention is not opened yet. This has to do with some technical issues on the journal side. We keep tight contact with them and will inform you as soon as everything is resloved (hopefully, within a couple of days).

23rd October 2020

Reviewing completed!!!

Finally, the review of all papers is completed (contact icsc-2020@tft.lth.se if you have not heard from us). We are very grateful to all the reviewers who contributed!!! We also apologise in front of the authors for taking so long time—our only excuse is that it was A LOT of work to handle.

What happens next?

1. Submission to the AAP special issue opens in the beginning of November. Before that, the authors will receive a message whether their paper is recommended or not for the special issue.

2. In case your paper is not recommended or it get rejected during the journal internal review process—feel free to submit it to any other journal of your choice.

3. Closer to the conference event (October 2021), you will be asked to provide the latest version of your paper for the conference proceedings. This will not be compulsory, though (we are aware that some journals might not be happy about that).

Best regards and stay safe!!! (and see you at the webinar)

ICSC webinar

The pandemic situation has lead to changes in many plans, including postponement of the ICSC 2020 conference. To keep the spirit high and the community feeling warm, we organise an online event (webinar) that will take place on 5th November 2020, 15:00-17:00 CET (9:00-11:00 EST).

The topic of the webinar is...

Single bicycle crashes as a rising problem

Participation in the webinar is free, but requires registration. You do not need to have a submission for the conference to attend the webinar.

ICSC 2020 conference POSTPONED

Dear Cycling Safety Friends,

It has been a hard decision to take, but in the current conditions the only right one. ICSC 2020 conference is postponed.

What are the consequences and how are we going to address them?

1. The actual conference—physical meeting—will take place on 10-12 November 2021, still in Lund.

2. Authors already accepted are automatically accepted to the ICSC 2021 program with the same contributions.

3. We will open for additional submissions during spring 2021.

4. We continue with paper reviews according to the original plan. Based on the reviews, papers will be recommended to the special issue of the Accident Analysis & Prevention journal.

5. The preparation of the special issue continues according to the original plan, too. Even though it is an unusual case, we have ‘ok’ from the editor that the special session comes out BEFORE the actual conference taking place.

6. Authors not published in the AAP special issue are free to submit their papers to any other journal. If the journal allows it, we kindly ask you to mention something like ’an earlier version of this manuscript has been reviewed and accepted at International Cycling Safety Conference 2020/21’.

7. To keep the spirit of the ICSC community, we will have an online special session on the original days of the conference. The program and instructions on how to join will come soon.

Best regards and stay safe!!!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page

ICSC 2020 has now a FAQ page. Some questions comes naturally and we receive them again and again. FAQ page is just the right place where you might find the answer directly—because someone has already been in your shoes and wondered of the same thing...

We plan to keep this page 'live', updating the contents as the situation develops.

  • Will the conference take place?
  • Will it go online?
  • Can I submit my paper after the deadline?

Go to the FAQ page and find the answers there.

SPECIAL CALL: ‘Cycling safety in pandemic time’

The pandemic we are witnessing has clearly affected all aspects of our society, not the least when it comes to transportation. Many people turned to bicycles for commuting to avoid congested public transport. Many cities support this movement by improving bicycle infrastructure, taking space from cars to make bicycle lanes and so on.

What are the safety effects of this sudden process? Do more cyclists imply more cycling accidents? Or is there safety-in-number effect in place? Do cyclists behave differently, for example keeping ‘social distance’? Do car drivers behave differently seeing more cyclists around?

ICSC opens a possibility to submit additional contribution on the topic of cycling safety in pandemic time. If you have started (or plan to start) a study related to this, consider sharing your (early) results during the conference.

Please, get in touch with the conference organisers at icsc-2020@tft.lth.se to discuss your ideas and how they can be presented during the conference.

15th May 2020

Dear Cycling Safety friends,

Together with the Steering Committee, we had a lot of discussions on how to proceed and save the conference. As the outcome, here are the two plans we want to share with you.

Plan A. We aim at a physical event if the circumstances allow. Most probably, some of the participants, particularly from Australia and North America, will still face travel restrictions or simply want to avoid travelling. We will work on technical solutions allowing to be a remote yet still active participant. However, we do not want ICSC 2020 to become 100% virtual.

If by the end of August 2020 the travel and other restrictions are still in place with no hope for quick elimination, we will change to…

Plan B. The conference is postponed till November 2021. When this decision is taken, a lot of work on writing and reviewing the papers has already been done. Therefore, we keep what was promised regarding the handling of the papers – the special issue of the Accident Analysis and Prevention will take place (confirmed by the editor), and those who wish to publish their work on the conference website may still do so.

I hope these explanations bring some certainty in these uncertain times.

Best regards and stay safe!!!
